One of the reason we advise our customers from applying epoxy themselves is that store-bought epoxy floor coatings do not provide the necessary protection against hot tire pick up for example. Store bought water-based epoxy coatings fail to provide a thick strong layer of protection and can grow weaker in warmer conditions.

Some of our customers are happy with their existing floors and request Epoxy clear coat. Epoxy clear coat applies white but when finished drying, leaves a strong but transparent overlay that protects floors. Epoxy clear coat can be applied to existing concrete floors.

Though there are many do-it-yourself solutions readily available, an insufficient knowledge-base of working temperature conditions such as high heat may unexpectedly influence curing time and produce less than desirable results. Prepping existing concrete for resurfacing begins with cleaning with a high pressure washer to remove dirt so that the adhesion coat can be applied. Large cracks are also repaired to ensure a smooth application. After applying an initial acid wash the concrete overlay is applied.

We also offer several overlay textures that we create by hand. Hand troweled texture application can be manipulated to create different levels of smoothness. Knockdown texture, is another raised texture option that will provide slightly cooler temperatures in the hot summers. The texture is “knocked down” after initial application and will leave small troughs and grooves that decrease the surface that bare feet will come in contact with.

Customers seeking for a more textured look to their garage floors can consider color flakes, one of the most common techniques used in garage floors. After prepping a floor’s foundation by sweeping and vacuuming a floor, an epoxy coat is applied and colored flakes are broadcasted or dispersed until the initial layer of epoxy can no longer absorb the colored flakes. After allowing for the proper drying tiem, excess colored flakes are scraped off, and spaces are re-vacuumned again. Epoxy floor coatings treated with colored quartz are applied in similar fashion to colored flakes, however, colored quartz gives off a more pebbled appearance. Epoxy color quartz systems provide a high-density overlay that protects against abrasion that occurs with heavy-duty usage. Colored quartz systems are popular in retail and commercial spaces for their ability to maintain a clean appearance with a pattern that camouflages dirt.
Even though polished concrete floors appear slippery, polished concrete floors provide enough traction to prevent slippage. Polished concrete floors are relatively easy to maintain. Removing the existing tile or carpeting oftentimes exposes concrete subfloors that customers can polish to obtain a modern and industrial polished concrete floor. With its ability to conduct heat, polished concrete floors are ideal for luxury homes that want to incorporate radiant floor heating systems.

Orange peel is another raised texture that can be used in poolside decks to due its tendency to be cooler to walk on when compared to concrete, brick or pavers. Unlike knockdown texture, the orange peel will cure in an “orange peel” texture as suggested by its name. Nonetheless we ensure to scrape orange peel and remove burs to obtain smooth walking surfaces.

Polished concrete floors utilize a densifier that will make a polished surface resistant to spills, wear and tear and prolong the durability of the floor’s polish. Grind and seal flooring systems undergo a similar process, except that floors are sealed with a clear topical sealant. Grind and seal flooring systems offer a non-porous, hypoallergenic surface that makes for easy maintenance. Grind, stain and seal flooring systems alter the color of concrete.
